Never Been Good At That

Got mad at myself today
Found out I can’t dance for jack
Been wearin’ out all my shoes
Just workin’ on moves and rhythm
But I never been good at that

My pockets are full of holes
Where my money once used to be at
I ought to be better at managing my finances
But I never been good at that

So I was planning a new invention
That would take away all my blues
But I sold the blueprints for some money
To buy myself some shoes

(Refrain)
I am the mechanical wind-up man
I keep going as far as I can
I don’t know when I should stop
I guess I’ll go until I drop

Sunny day rain comes down
‘Cuz the devil’s been beatin’ his wife
Someday that woman oughtta have that man arrested
But she’s never been good at that

So Persephone waits her season
And I can wait my time, too
I’m soakin’ my two left feet
‘Till I can figure out what to do

(Refrain)

Words fill my head like morning fog
That’s my internal dialogue
One says I’ve got one chance in three
One says I am my enemy
One says I ought to hang up my gloves
One says to change my pushes to shoves
Lots of opinions, lots of advice
But I’ve already bet and rolled the dice

I am the mechanical wind-up man
I keep going as far as I can
I don’t know when I should stop
I guess I’ll go until I drop
It’s alright I’m feelin’ good
Wheels and parts are workin’ just like they should
I am the mechanical wind-up man
I keep going as far as I can
